==Short Bio==
Dr. '''Joshua Forstenzer''' is currently the Vice-Chancellor's Fellow for the Public Benefit of Higher Education at the University of Sheffield. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Politics and Philosophy (Hons.), his Master's in Political Theory (Distinction), and his PhD in Philosophy at the University of Sheffield. As a doctoral student, he led the Philosophy Department's outreach program, Philosophy in the City (from 2008 to 2010), served as Vice-President of United Nations Youth and Students Association (2009-10) and President of the University of Sheffield's Students' Union (2010/11).

During his term as President, in addition to overseeing the biggest students' union in England, he spearheaded major campaigns against the UK government's plans to increase tuition fees and reform student visas, successfully mobilising thousands of students and peacefully leading the largest wave of student protests outside of London in the fall of 2010. Since then, he has been an advisor to political candidates seeking municipal office in France and positions on the executive arm of the UK National Union of Students.

He now leads the Crick Centre's 'Youth Politics and Citizenship' research strand and works closely with the Vice-Chancellor's Office at the University of Sheffield on the notion of the Civic University.

==Research Interests==
His main research interests are in political and social philosophy, American Pragmatism, and philosophy of education. His current project is interdisciplinary in nature and deals with participatory democracy, youth politics, and civic education (especially in the context of higher education).

==Mentoring==
In addition to offering general support, his mentoring will focus on his mentees' areas of political interest, by using the notions of deliberative democracy, community organizing, and strategic change-making to empower this generation of thoughtful and dedicated young people.
'''Andreas Kamilaris''' received his BA degree in Computer Science from University of Cyprus in 2007 and his MS degree in Distributed Systems from the ETH University of Zurich, Switzerland in 2009. He worked two years as an IT consultant in Politis newspaper and is a co-founder of Elevate-Me Promotions, which is the first company that brought to Cyprus the radical-new concept of elevator advertising. In December 2012, he successfully defended his PhD Thesis, entitled "Enabling Smart Homes using Web Technologies" at the Computer Science department of the University of Cyprus, under the supervision of Prof. Andreas Pitsillides, collaborating with the Institute for Pervasive Computing of the ETH Zurich, in the area of the Web of Things. He is also a member of the Networks Research Laboratory (NetRL), which is part of the Computer Science department of the University of Cyprus. In 2013, he performed postdoc research at the Department of Building, School of Design and Environment of the National University of Singapore, studying techniques for reducing the ICT-based plug loads in offices and commercial buildings, affecting at the same time the occupants' behaviour towards more rational use of the office equipment for energy savings. Then, he returned back to the University of Cyprus, continuing his postdoc research by working on the Social Electricity Online Platform (SEOP) European project, developing learning modules, educational content and online eco-feedback platforms, aiming to raise the awareness and knowledge of European citizens about energy, the environment and sustainability, investigating in parallel how Web technologies and social computing can lead people to pro-environmental behaviour. In parallel, he has been collaborating with the National University of Singapore, working on a project related to providing real-time online eco-feedback services to 50 houses around Singapore, using smart metering, promoting online user collaboration for co-creation of knowledge and energy savings through a synergistic effort of the participants. Now, he is working at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics at NUIG Galway, Ireland, performing research related to real-time Internet-of-Things stream processing and large-scale data analytics for smart city applications, through the CityPulse EU project.

The Shadow Participants are probably the most important actors of the Reinventing Democracy in the Digital Era project, because they are the ones who will allow the project to scale-up and involve thousands. In the context of this project phase, funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF), there will be over 1000 Shadow Participants from across the globe sharing their ideas and views.
Shadow Participants are those individuals who are chosen by CoreParticipants to participate in virtual and or hybrid Regional SDDPs. Every Core Participant is required to carefully select and propose at least 10 young leaders and/or change makers to serve as Shadow Participants. Once entered into the program, Shadow Participants will have equal participation and their contributions will be given equal weights with regard to their impact in designing and delivering the final products.

Each Core Participant must propose at least 10 Shadow Participants.
In order to find out more about how to apply to contribute as Shadow Participant you must visit the page: Join as Shadow Participant in the Structured Democratic Dialogues.
